Noh Stage

‘Noh Stage’, where you can experience traditional Japanese culture

Guests can find an authentic Noh stage, made entirely of hinoki cypress and with a roof made of Japanese cypress bark, in front of the lobby after stepping into the entranceway.
It is extremely rare for a Japanese inn to have a Noh stage.

Time/Performances begin at 20:30 every night (※Performances may begin at 20:00 on certain days, such as New Year’s Eve)

※ There is a bar counter to the side of the stage where you can order drinks and enjoy the performance.
※ Fees will be charged for drinks.

Shigeyama Senzaburo
SHIGEYAMA SENZABURO

Studied under his grandfather and father from the age of two. In ‘ONATSU’, he has combined contemporary drama, opera, musicals, and kyogen into a single unit, and received critical acclaim. He has also participated in many overseas performances. He is promoting the charms of the classical performing art ‘Kyōgen’, as well as ‘Kyoto’, not only within Japan, but also to the rest of the world.

‘What is Nohgaku?’

‘Noh’ and ‘Kyōgen’ have been performed continuously for more than 650 years since the Muromachi period, and are representative of Japanese performing arts.
‘Noh’ and ‘Kyōgen’ are collectively known as ‘Nohgaku’.
In ancient times, ‘Nohgaku’ was beloved by many military commanders, such as Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. In the modern era, it has been registered as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, and is highly rated overseas as well.
